Rose Gaw
Rose Gaw will be describing mental health resources at the college level, including for students with disabilities. She is the Disability Services and Programs for Students Counselor, Rio Hondo College. Born and raised in Myanmar, where education was not accessible to all, Rose developed a passion for equal justice and is driven to create opportunities for future generations.
Shelley Gee-Ryan
Shelley Gee-Ryan will address steps parents and older students can take to deal with racial harassment. She is an educator with the Alhambra Unified School District, and serves as an elected Trustee on the San Marino Unified School District Board of Education.
Derek Li
Derek Li will explain when and how to file race harassment and bullying incidents in workplace in Federal and state agencies. He is a Senior Trial Attorney with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Since 2006, Derek has litigated a wide range of employment discrimination case, and has conducted training and outreach to the community.
Trisha Murakawa
Trisha Murakawa will provide tips on effective messaging to create and maintain anti-hate crime initiatives. She is the Principal in Murakawa Communications, which specializes in strategic communications for the public sector. She serves as an elected Trustee for the El Camino College District Governing Board.
Peter Wong
Peter J. Wong will provide highlights of the historical context preceding the current resurgence of anti-Asian hate crimes. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Asian American Studies and Public Policy Departments at California State University Long Beach. His research includes economic and cultural barriers faced by Asian American women with disabilities.
Christina Yang
Christina Yang will describe legal services available for survivors of hate crimes and hate incidents. She will also cover ways to get involved by volunteering with legal NPOs and participating in intervention training. Christina is General Counsel and Pro Bono Director at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA. Her extensive legal background includes civil rights and worker rights.
